Ayurvedic Bliss Therapies
For Living Yoga in a Modern World
One of the primary Doshas is called Pitta.  Pitta is comprised of fire and water.  They typically have average builds
and body frames with good circulation and warm extremities.  They have strong digestive capabilities and can eat
large amounts without weight gain.  They are typically go-getters with strong ambition.  Pittas are good leaders and
by nature organized, intelligent and comprehend knowledge quite well.  Still,  if they live life with less
self-awareness they can be very domineering, self-centered, egotistical and prone toward alcoholism.

Because we possess all of the Doshas it is possible for Pitta to become imbalanced even if it is not our primary
constitution.  This means that something, either internal or external, has aggravated Pitta and exaggerated it in our
character.  For example, a person who is generally compliant and suddenly becomes angry and despondent could
possibly be demonstrating a Pitta imbalance.

Some causes of high Pitta include spicy foods, competition, long exposure to heat and working through the night.
Prime psychological factors are anger, irritability, short temper, argument and conflict.

Symptoms of high Pitta bring a desire for cooling foods or drinks.  Physical symptoms can be burning hunger,
allergic rashes, acne, ulcers, and most inflammatory conditions.  To reduce imbalances, an anti-pitta diet should be
followed which includes raw leafy vegetables, mung beans and basmati rice.  Pitta reducing herbs include
coriander, turmeric, cilantro, and cloves.  Moon bathing as well as self massage with coconut oil can also help to
cool the body and calm the mind.
