Ayurvedic Bliss Therapies Chicago.

As some of you may know Ayurveda is relatively new to Chicago and much of the Western world. It is partly because of this newness, that I feel a unique opportunity in trying to educate the community about this wonderful science, medicinal system, and lifestyle. Offering Ayurvedic body therapies in a spa setting comes with its pros and cons. On the one hand, it is often an opportunity to reach people, and introduce them to Ayurveda. On the other, people are often left unaware of the medicinal aspects of these treatments, and perceive them as luxury items or spa therapies, which tend to decrease their value.

To promote preventative health and natural healing modalities, I want to extend the idea to you that these therapies can be, and are indeed so much more than that. In fact, they have been used medicinally for thousands of years, and are much older than the practice of acupuncture. Recent medical research has demonstrated much of their restorative and healing properties on many diseases including lupus and other autoimmune disorders, heart disease, cancer, and anxiety. Studies have shown there are marked increases in immunity, as much as thirty percent, months after Panchakarma (Ayurvedic detox programs) have ended.

Shirodhara in particular has a unique immediate effect that appeals to the instant gratification that many of us in the West desire. I am still delighted every time as a practitioner, to watch my clients slip into a deep state soon after I begin to pour warm medicinal oils over their foreheads. There is marked difference in breathing patterns, and some people even report hallucinatory or auditory experiences. One of my last clients said as he came out of the therapy, “Wow, that was really weird…I thought I was driving down lake shore drive.”

Traditionally, Shirodhara has been used to treat a wide range of disease or imbalance from chronic insomnia, anxiety, epilepsy, and even insanity. There is no doubt that it induces a deep meditative state that can be quite powerful in supporting the body’s self-healing process in regard to any disease.
